Clarks
My Dad bought me my first pair of Clarks when I was a teenager. I wish I knew then that he was only trying to up my Swag like many Jamaican fathers before him. It took me almost a decade but I totally get their appeal.

lady marmalade
I was never much of a "Brunch Person." I hate waking up earlier than noon and more than often I'd much rather start off my day with an Americano. I think chewing is for lunch and dinner. On top of it all I don't really like eggs. This leaves me two options: A sugar rush that's bound to shock my nerve system OR I can order off of the kid's menu and have the infamous grilled cheese sandwich. I enjoy maple syrup and cheese sandwiches as much as any other man but I like options. Rather than having an enjoyable meal, my brunch dates often leave me hungry and bore my taste buds.
All of this changed when I visited Lady Marmalade in Toronto's East end about a week ago. Since then I cannot stop thinking about the savory waffle I had. It was elegantly made with cheese, spinach and bacon, topped with a creamy tomato sauce and a side of greens with a miso dressing. My senses are constantly gossiping with each other and planting little pictures of my meal in my mind's eye every time I see the letter W, smell a tomato or taste anything remotely cheesy. Throw in a few good friends, bottomless coffee and a rather quaint atmosphere it is safe to say that I am a member of the "brunch people club" and I wear my badge with honour. I've been converted and so can you.

It's Your Birsday
So young, So Brave and so impeccably dressed.
It's Artists like Sliimy that push me reconsider my personal style as a vehicle for self-expression. Not only is his style truly admirable but his voice and overall sense of being tickles my heart. Today is his Birthday and from one artist to another I'd like to say: Joyeux Anniversaire. Another year older is another year to grow creatively.

Summer
And in that moment, he came to terms with the fact that she wasn't going to stay...
The truth was that he had patiently awaited her arrival for months. It had been a long, grueling winter and his heart was cold. She took him by the hand and asked him to sit with her. All she ever wanted was his company. As the days passed his heart melted and so did his troubles. They formed a small pool on the ground around his feet that followed him wherever he went.
Every morning he would wake up and whisper ever so gently, "I will enjoy you." and his words tickled her heart. She was radiant. As they sat, day after day, she would remind him that his feet were wet but he could not see. She shone so brightly that it blinded him. Bewildered he would repeat, “I will enjoy you.”
Little by little as the days got long and the nights hot he began to take her for granted. Every morning he would wake a little bit later than the day before and he would not say a word to her. On some days he would complain that she was shining too brightly and that she had stayed too long. He was bitter and cold but she still welcomed him with her warmth.
One day, he did not get out of bed at all. She sat and waited for him for hours on end but he did not come. He remained absent the next day and the next. Sometimes it takes that long to dry your feet.
As he lay in bed, a flood of memories came in waves of their time together. He thought of how loyal she had been to him and how loyal she would always be. She was indeed good company but she could never dry his feet. She was scheduled to leave soon. When one visits they do just that and nothing more. And in that moment, he came to terms with the fact that she wasn't going to stay.
As he counted down the days, he would get up a little bit earlier than usual and whisper ever so firmly "I have enjoyed you." A slight breeze carried his words to the rising sun. He would not see her until she returned again. On the day she left she rode the wind’s current and whispered back, “I’ll see you soon." Summer left and autumn knocked on his door. Autumn took him by the hand and asked him if they could sit together.

Theo Gosselin
Lately I've been thinking about how people live and the things they do when they're alone. What becomes habit and what is routine? How many times does one check their phone before turning the page of the novel they are reading and what are the most assumed positions for being productive in bed?
As the puzzle pieces come together to create an intimate portrait of our lives, it's increasingly more precious to have stumbled upon Theo Gosselin's photography. Not only does he have impeccable taste in music but I think that in our own private moments we have shared the same thoughts- only he took out a camera to document his perceptions of privacy, dwelling and anthropology.

Gardenia
Lately I've been thinking about growing up and what that term
actually means to me, to my peers, to my mother, my brothers, my sister,
past lovers, to Annie, to Janet & and to the King of youth and
naivety: Peter. It is summer days like these that I begin to melt into
my furniture and engage in such lucid thoughts. The fact of the matter
is that one day I will wake up and be a flower. I can feel that I'm on
the verge of blooming and there's simply no stopping it. Problem is: I'm
perfectly content with the blissful ignorance of being a seed, shielded
from the elements, cocooned by the soil in the Earth. So, what's a boy
to do?
I feel bashfully blunt when I say that we all share this
insecurity and fear of growing up. As I gather my thoughts I've come to conclude that there isn't really anything I can do about it. One day
I'll bloom, and whether I'm ready for it or not, it will be beautiful.
If you're struggling with similar thoughts this week you'll find joy(
maybe even a joyful tear) in Gardenia and the work of Germany's Carsten
Witte.

Someone please just give this kid an exhibition.
If I'm not mistaken, most of his work are self portraits.
