Noir

I recently discovered the work of Samuel Mercure and in an instant, I fell in love. With the seasons in transition, I've been painting pictures in my mind of myself in shades of black against a bed of snow. I think Winter would be so beautiful in black and white- like a scene from an old Hollywood film. Of course I can't force my fellow city dwellers to follow my lead.. but I plan to do what I can to contribute to my vision- even if it remains a dream.

Limbo pt 2

I thrifted this jacket quite a while ago but I've yet to wear it out.
I guess I'm hoping for a warm, sunny day but February is putting up quite the fight.
I'm usually up for a challenge but I often find myself defensless in the bitter cold.
If you should bump into me in the city and I shatter, it's safe to say that we can both blame this catastrophe on February.

Wishing for warmth

Yea, I went there.
The end of the year has me feeling more nostalgic than usual. ( didn't think that was possible?) The years are flying by- like tomorrow I'll graduate, and the week after I'll be middle aged.I'm not afraid of this concept I just want to enjoy every minute of it. As I watch the second hand on my clock tick, tick, tick. I'm reminded of the song we all love and hate. The truth is Mr. Larson is brilliant for putting this thought into the atmosphere in the form of song.

How do you measure a year?

-In Starbucks
-In blog entries
-In all nighters
-In paycheques
-In imperial
-In Cardboard
-In sunlight
-In photos
-In texts
-In Pints
-In laughter
-In hugs
-In Post Stamps
-But most & best of all, In Seasons of love for all the people that have graced me with their smiles and ideas, hugs and kisses.

Cheers to a decade!

It's the response to grace that is most admirable.
Nature has such treasures just outside of my humble world of bright lights and the high rise.

February/June/July

Last night I had the pleasure of finishing a great novel recommended to me by the Timeless lady behind Too Gamine. I introduce to you Shane Jones, authour of Light Boxes. I simply couldn't be more satisfied with a novel. It was like I was absorbing magic through my eyes that infested my brain and tinkered with my imagination. Imagine a world under the reign of February who makes it cold all the time and takes away anything nurturing the idea of flight- A place where children go missing and the notions of evil are challenged with intent. I submerged myself in this adult fairytale and couldn't help but praise Jones from cover to cover (Not only because of his lyrical writing but because of the layout of the book.) Some pages have one sentence on it surrounded by a blizzard of white while some marry different font sizes and typefaces. Both help to illustrate the novel through the impact of words and the use of negative and positive space- something I think an illustration could never do in this case. If I wasn't satisfied enough with this novel it also helps the Shane Jones seems like a pretty cool guy. After all, anyone who has Kate Bush under there influences is a friend of mine.

"I wanted to write you a story about magic. I wanted rabbits appearing from hats. I wanted balloons lifting you into the sky. It turned out to be nothing but sadness war, heartbreak. You never saw it, but there's a garden inside of me."

THE ELWINS - Propinquity from Mitch Fillion on Vimeo.

Meet Matthew(guitar and vocals), Travis(drums), Heather(keyboard and vocals) and Ferd (bass). I dare you to hate them. When pop meets folk you can't help but smile and nod your head to the whimsical beats of the Elwins.

It's just how things were meant to be.

I'm dancing around my kitchen listening to the radio and cooking a dinner fit for a king (or a student). Life is good.... until the radio host announces that we're expecting flurries on Friday! Now I don't know who "we" is but speaking for myself, I am not expecting flurries at all!
"Hey Flurries! Don't come round my backdoor!"
Suddenly the ghosts of summers past, flash into my mind's eye as I scramble to hold on to what little memories I have left. I'm taken back to the sweet days of me at Seventeen: working to shop,Flying High and Chasing the sunrise.

(Next summer equals massive amounts of loafers and calf socks, But until then. Bundle up)

Dreaming in Space

So the world is just about craving summer, but I'm so content in my blazers & heavy cardigans. I mean, one should be able to layer all year round- and this summer proposes the release of my dreams into a slightly chilly but comfortable reality. Life is so wonderful.

Well... life is wonderful if you haven't witnessed your world being destroyed! (SPOILER ALERT)
Everyone needs to head over to a theatre and marvel at the brilliance of Star Trek! More importantly, Spock. Those bangs are so tough. I dig it.
