Monsieur Lahzar

In my life, I've been fortunate enough to encounter some wonderful educators that have played a monumental role in shaping the young man I am today. I'm sure we've all seen too many films about inspirational teachers but Monsieur Lazhar seems to be more about a film with an inspirational teacher rather than a film about an inspirational teacher. It is because of this aspect and the subtly brilliant performances in this film that I can't help but suggest that you plan to watch it. You'll laugh. You'll Cry and leave the theater with utmost gratitude for the teachers that have enriched your life and the fact that good screen plays still exist.

Less is More. Lesson Learned.

The Future

Miranda July: The Future on Nowness.com.

My brother sent me this link a while ago and I can't seem to get it off my mind. I'm more than excited to see this movie at some point in life. I'm hoping that it is as liberating as the featured deleted scene.

It's such an interesting idea to think of freedom and what it could mean. Perhaps we'll always feel caged and restless no matter what the circumstance for the path to self-improvement is bumpy, meandering and without end. It's our imperfections that keep us locked up. I think that when we realize that perfection is not tangible we can rummage through our denim pockets and miraculously find the key to freedom:

ACCEPTANCE.

Rainbow Theory

Hi.
I've been slacking with my blog entries. I've just been so busy not sleeping, meeting deadlines, missing deadlines etc. The life and times of a design student is hard these days. I spent all night working on some colour theory illustrations of the office I "designed" last semester. I'm far too tired to recognize if they are any good...but I will say that I have a new appreciation for colour in my life.
As I came to terms with this revelation I happened to stumble upon this video! So cool, so saturated and beautifully filmed.

Rom Shmom

I finally gave up some well earned free time to visit the ROM to see the Vanity Fair Portraits.
Heaven comes to Earth from time to time and if you're lucky, you can catch a glimpse of pure extasy. I think it's safe to say that if you haven't dedicated some time to these portraits you must do so before the sand runs through the hour glass.
I want to pick up a camera-- A good camera. I want to capture beauty, fault, self worth, unicorns, gum on the side walk and much more. Perhaps it has all been done before, but not through my eyes. My eyes, your eyes, our eyes-- they see the world through a different lense. I hope that one day you can see what I see and question to put things into focus.

Beyond the portrait is a person and I've taken interest in the presence lurking in these astounding photos:

Rob Lowe

Phillip Glass

Martha Graham

John Currin

Gloria Swanson

Anna Pavola

Aldous Huxley

While Dancing in the Sunlight

Sometimes it really is good therapy to go to the beach...so I did. Accompanied by my personal Little Mermaid and the best virtual urban planner I know, it really was a grand occassion. In fact, I think another trip is due. It's such a beautiful thing to bask in the sun, embrace water and simply forget. Forget about the busy bodies of the city, the assumptions made, the mornings after, work, the future, radical notions of beauty.... and the fact that Michael really won't be coming back.
It's these moments of realization that awaken this deep sense of appreciation for all those who came before. Michael taught me what the beat looks like. It's only one thing to hear it. He taught me that we are not alone & that white socks and black slacks only work if you're the king of pop.
Thanks for sharing that beat of love (all night)

Just Beyond the Tree.

You know, everyone's trying to get to wonderland and looking in all the wrong places. Maybe we shouldn't even be looking for physical places at all. Maybe wonderland is a state of being rendered by our actions:
The heart races as you sip wine and dine with beautiful people, and in that moment you consider that if your life were a movie, that particular scene would be the opening credits as "baby love" hums ever so softly from the stereo system. You go for excellent walks on warm summer nights and are amazed by all the world has to offer like the bark of an old tree and the sight of pink tulips. That's what wonderland is all about. Alice had it all wrong.

Dreaming in Space

So the world is just about craving summer, but I'm so content in my blazers & heavy cardigans. I mean, one should be able to layer all year round- and this summer proposes the release of my dreams into a slightly chilly but comfortable reality. Life is so wonderful.

----
Well... life is wonderful if you haven't witnessed your world being destroyed! (SPOILER ALERT)
Everyone needs to head over to a theatre and marvel at the brilliance of Star Trek! More importantly, Spock. Those bangs are so tough. I dig it.
