Buildings for Music
I had my first hand in for my thesis project on Thursday. It basically consisted of my proposal and some background research regarding my topic: "Buildings for music". Above are a few of my most successful pages. The Goal is to create "Spaces that hear" where the user is able to engage with music and the sounds of the metropolis.
This morning, I grabbed a coffee and walked to the subway to head to work with the hum of St. Vincent for company. Despite the spiraling winds and the snow melting on my nose, I couldn't help but smile to myself as Annie sang:
"Marry me, Jon
Marry me, Jon
I'll be so good to you"
As you move about your neighborhood, how does music or the sounds of your city effect your perception of space, time and people?

Why don't I go to shows all the time?
Annie Clark pretty much makes my life.
Smooth Vocals, great stage presence and beauty for days.
Can one ask for more?

I'm also going to plug Gentlemen Reg. They opened for St. Vincent and maybe I'm wrong to jump to this conclusion, but I'm pretty sure I'm officially a fan.
Let yourself go in the music.

I've got the answer.. maybe.
It was a literary discussion of the ages.
I sat on the infamous red futon dissecting my latest musical obsession. Cranking up the volume as loud as it could go on the laptop, St. Vincent's "All My Stars Aligned" gently filled the room received by my ears, nostrils, open wounds and mouth. As stated, I'm always thankful for great lyrics, but even more so, I'm thankful for music that allows the audience to walk in the artist's shoes for 3-4 minutes. Well, i've walked the route so many times these past few days and my feet are sore. Listen and I won't need to explain myself any further.
"I do a dance to make the rain come..."
It's such an odd thing to characterize the rain. I often think of storms as negative things or that we must endure the rain just to get a rainbow. In reality, rain can be a gift. This lyric is proof. I'm doing a dance all week to make my rain come. I want it to fall and drench me. I mean, when was the last time I played in the rain? I think I've finally got the dark cloud over my head outsmarted. I'm simply not afraid of it anymore nor am I annoyed. In my class act of desperation, I hope I'm cleansed of my extreme pessimism.
Today, the urban planner handed me a flower with only two petals. this was my thought:
"they love me, they love me not" gah!
I think I need to be injected with sunshine and cotton candy.
PS. I bought a really good shirt the other day! The Gap has treasures if you wear 'em right.
