February/June/July

Last night I had the pleasure of finishing a great novel recommended to me by the Timeless lady behind Too Gamine. I introduce to you Shane Jones, authour of Light Boxes. I simply couldn't be more satisfied with a novel. It was like I was absorbing magic through my eyes that infested my brain and tinkered with my imagination. Imagine a world under the reign of February who makes it cold all the time and takes away anything nurturing the idea of flight- A place where children go missing and the notions of evil are challenged with intent. I submerged myself in this adult fairytale and couldn't help but praise Jones from cover to cover (Not only because of his lyrical writing but because of the layout of the book.) Some pages have one sentence on it surrounded by a blizzard of white while some marry different font sizes and typefaces. Both help to illustrate the novel through the impact of words and the use of negative and positive space- something I think an illustration could never do in this case. If I wasn't satisfied enough with this novel it also helps the Shane Jones seems like a pretty cool guy. After all, anyone who has Kate Bush under there influences is a friend of mine.

"I wanted to write you a story about magic. I wanted rabbits appearing from hats. I wanted balloons lifting you into the sky. It turned out to be nothing but sadness war, heartbreak. You never saw it, but there's a garden inside of me."
